Colon Cancer Solutions

Colon Cancer Solutions is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating colorectal cancers through prevention, awareness and clinical research. Founded over two years ago by Jo-Ellen Corkery De Luca, Executive Director, Colon Cancer Solutions strives to improve the quality of life for survivors and their families. Our passion is to reach everyone we can regarding early detection and screening. "Don't be afraid to get checked- be afraid not to."

Colon Cancer Solutions

When Jo-Ellen began her work, she was alone. Today over 90 members of "Get Checked!", a Gibbs Cancer Center support group, respond to help eliminate this all too often unspoken about cancer killer. Free public awareness events encourage everyone to join us to find answers.

An awareness Walk for Colon Cancer; Walk for Your Health, in collaboration with Hub City Farmers' Market and Partners for Active Living pulled over 250 walkers in 2008. Triple this number is being planned for August 29th, 2009 as the throng of survivors-supporters walks either a 1 or 3-mile trail through Morgan Square and back to the old train station. This year a Run is being added. Won't you join us?

Visit their website, www.gicancersolutions.org, for resources and news of local events. Current GI Clinical Trials are also available from top research centers to Gibbs Cancer Center designed to ease the burden of diagnosis and as a response to hearing those dreaded three words, "you have cancer".

Colon Cancer Solutions dedicated a new board: Brandi Bridges-Bishop, President, Gene Burgess, Secretary, Jason Patrick, Treasurer, Kenneth Tillerson and Cynthia Chauhan - each affected by cancer and health-related issues. Both Jo-Ellen and the Board call for more volunteers, members (free) and the community to "Get Checked!"
